"Mother.. I promise. I'll take you away from him." Promised 17 years old Christian to his mother because he is getting tired of hearing these pleas that take his life out of him painfully. He wants to help his mother but he can't, he knows he is not capable enough to do anything, all he can do is to make empty promises and give consolation to his mother. Just for his mother, to do something for her and take her away from the frights and pain, he joined the dark side at the age of 17 but never told her about it. Eleanor kissed his forehead and smiled but said nothing.
..Sophie kept living her life ignorant of the fact what her future held for her, she lived a normal life, unaware of her own self. Lively and happy....
Aunt Eleanor used to come to their house,
"Aunt!" 9 years old Sophie shouted and jumped into her arms. Sophie eyes shine in happiness as she hugged her tightly,
"I missed you!" She grinned.
"Oh, I miss you too and so is your knight." Eleanor said as she kissed her forehead. Eleanor always told her about Christian ,calling him her Knight who will love and protect her.
"But, he never came to visit me." Pouted Sophie. "One day, he'll appear out of nowhere taking you with him." She said, pinching her cheeks. "A Knight will descend for you" Her Aunt said. “I hope one day he will.” Sophie smiled. “He will.” She smiled back.
"But, I can't leave mama and Eugene alone." Sophie said sadly. Eleanor always loved Sophie, she was always cheerful and brave, Eleanor always used to tell Christian about Sophie, what she did today, what are her likes and dislikes and Christian grew up listening to only one name; Sophie. But to be honest, he loves hearing about her, what she does, what she likes and all. And he knows everything about her but Sophie knows nothing about him, not even his name. She only knows him as her Knight.
After meeting her Aunt, Sophie's smile faded,
"That Bastard is here." She hissed.
"Who the hell you are calling a bastard?!" Roger's voice roared through the hall.
"Who else? You. You. You who love only Eugene heck, not even Eugene you love your bitches!" She yelled and her language didn't surprise anyone because she always humiliated him, she hated him and she is not afraid to show it
."Watch your mouth you pest!" Roger took a step towards her. She moved away from her Aunt and glared at him.
"What the hell you can do!? Touch me and I'll call the police! Your very existence is hateful, Get the hell out of our lives!" She yelled again. But deep inside her died for his attention and did this to gain it, she wanted the love of a Father like every child but couldn’t receive it.
"You ungrateful brat!" He raised his hand to hit her but she ran and stood up on the sofa having the phone in her hand.
"Watch your actions Bastard, And you have done nothing for us. My mother does everything for me. You don't have any rights over me. Get lost!" She scowled at him, her voice always made her Aunt and mother chest boast. She is always short-tempered and the very existence of him is offensive to her. Her desires aside, she cannot forgive him for leaving her family.
He turned to Amelia and glared at her,
"She does everything, right?" He turned to her, Sophie picked a slipper and threw at him.
"Talk to me damn it! Don't you dare to go near her!" She shouted and this took his wrath to a whole new level. He marched towards her and slapped her hard across her cheek as the sound echoed in the hall. Eugene began to cry as he hid behind the door.
Eleanor and Amelia rushed to Sophie who was crying,
"You're the worst, you cruel animal!" She still shouted.
"You.." He slapped her again. Sophie fell on the ground as blood slightly flowed down from the corner of her lips.
"You will pay for it Bastard." She hissed not giving up. Roger grit his teeth and turned his head away,
"I was here to meet my son not to meet some nuisance like her." he growled.
"I am also not dying to be with you. In fact, I would rather be happy if you die!" She yelled hiding herself behind the sofa.
Roger went to the bathroom and Sophie wiped her tears as her mother and Aunt consoled her. She grit her teeth as the urge to make him pay took over her. Roger walked out as he stood in the hall.
The doorbell ring as a smirk crept upon Sophie's lips. She quickly went to the door and opened it as tears again fell from her eyes,
"O-Officer.. t-this man hit m-me.." She cried- too much to everyone's shock. She called the cops. Cops took Roger away.
Later a complaint was filed as he was fined for his deed and after that he never came to meet them as Amelia also divorced him.
Eleanor told Christian the whole matter as he laughed,
"Sophie is really something.. it's unbelievable that she is 9." He laughed.
"Really... That's why I want her to be my bride, not your toy." Eleanor said hopelessly. Christian smile faded as he frowned,
"Mother.. I have told you, We will leave Boston and never gonna come in their lives. Sophie will live a normal life. I will vanish from her life. I have no rights over her." He declared.
"No one knows what the future holds son.." Eleanor sighed.
A year later, On Christian 18th birthday his father died in an accident. No matter how much of a fucker was that guy but he was his father and he loved him. At the funeral, he met Sophie officially for the first time, Sophie was 10, she was crying because of her uncle. She looked at the garden and saw Christian sitting all alone. She went to him and sat beside him,
"You are Aunt's son, don't you? Aunt never told me your name. I am Sophie." She smiled holding her hand but he didn't take it. Her smile turned into a sad one as she looked down,
"I feel bad for you. I never had a father and I don't know about father's love but I do know about the loveless life of not having a father. Please don't be sad, your father loves you. This will make him sad." She said with her innocent big hazel eyes shining brightly. Christian sniffed and looked away, "Leave me alone." He hid his emotions from her, trying not to cry.
"It's better to cry with a shoulder than alone. Mother told me that." He looked at her for a second as he hugged her the next moment and began to cry out loud. Sophie rubbed his back as they both cried- Christian more loudly. Then they pulled away and Christian left without saying another word.
"Oh, I forgot to ask Cousin's name." She said to herself but he was no more here.
After giving their condolences, they went home. Sophie kept asking for his name but no one told her in the end...
After his father's death, Christian began to face money problems. He has to complete his studies as well as to take care of his mother. To escape that desperation of money, he involved himself in illegal businesses more. Eleanor being an uneducated woman, she began to work as a maid. Christian also used to do small jobs but they can't be enough for his education and house. But still trying to leave the life of poverty, they fought hard. They can't even ask help from Amelia, she has nothing left she is also giving her all to grow her two kids.
Desperation..
To get out of that life, he took a risk and agreed to smuggle drugs to which he'll get bigger jobs and life better than here in New York. To achieve that life, he decided to leave everything behind.
That night, he was successful and was ready to leave Boston. But before he goes, he wants to see Sophie for the last time.
He was 21, She was 13, too much age gap but he couldn't help it, he was always told that she belonged to him and her mother always told him that he was hers too, he was supposed to love her, protect her till the bitter end. She told him that he is her knight. He has to do whatever he can for her and he couldn’t help but to feel the attraction of the relationship everyone assumed.
It's the party; his farewell party. They were playing hide and seek. Sophie was so lost in the kids of her age and he watched her from afar with a smile. He wanted to talk to her alone before he went. That's why he told all the kids to get an ice cream while she counts to 100 but unfortunately there's no adult for them as they took him away- forcefully not to mention, leaving Sophie all alone.
He felt so bad for her. When they came back, he brought a bucket of ice-cream only for her.
She was crying that they left her behind. She was sitting alone as he came to her.
"Here you go. I forgot to take you with me so I bought this for you." He smiled offering her the bucket. She puffed and looked away,
"I don't want it." She said angrily.
"I am sorry I couldn't take you with me Sophie. Accept this as an apology."
"I said I don't want it!" She said closing her arms at her chest. He sighed as he bend and looked at her,
"Maybe this is the last time we are meeting. Before I go, I want to tell you; I'll miss you." he said. Sophie's eyes widened, she opened her mouth to say something, to ask his name but before she could ask anything, he kissed her cheeks and smiled as he stood up and left putting the ice-cream on her side.
"Farewell Sophie.." He said as he disappeared thin into the air after this...
