Alena Wright decides to divorce her husband, Waylon Gray, and has divorce papers delivered to him. Waylon dismissively assumes she's playing some trick and ignores the agreement. Meanwhile, Alena moves out of their villa and relocates to her friend Darcy Harrington's vacant apartment in the city center. With a background in jewelry design, Alena begins job hunting and soon receives an interview invitation from Cohen Group. On the day of her interview, she arrives at the Cohen Group building and is shocked to spot Waylon in the elevator. Confused and unsettled by his presence, she wonders why he would be there, as the building belongs to Cohen Group, not his company, Monarch International Group. She had specifically avoided applying to any companies under his control.
