Chapter 5: Our game is sold!

“This is too damn entertaining!”

The rocket pipe suddenly launched into the air, as if carrying the audience’s laughter along with it, soaring straight up!

‘Hahahahaha it’s taking off!’

‘Pipe: Keep acting like a dck and I’ll blast you into the sky!’

‘Is this the Black Hand manned pipeline now?’

‘F**ing Black Hand hahaha...’

‘Gotta say: impressive moves, young hero!’

‘I imagined ten thousand kinds of traps, but I never thought this thing would actually launch!’

‘Boss totally lost it hahahahaha’

‘If the pipe ate the boss, I’d call it quality content; but if it launched him, I call it legendary.’

‘This game is off the rails…’

Staring at the stream of “hahaha” and snarky comments on the screen, and then at that troll-faced cat looking all innocent…

A Yin felt like his dignity had just been trampled on.

“Fine! I’ll admit—you’ve got skills!”

A Yin gave a big thumbs up, trying to act like a gracious opponent finally meeting his match:

“That was just a warm-up. From now on, I’m getting serious!”

And once he got serious—

It went on for over thirty minutes straight!

During that time, Comrade A Yin experienced everything from—clouds that devoured him, bricks smacking his face, collapsing floors, to getting knocked into traps by invisible bricks.

His whole vibe went from bold declarations in the beginning, to dead silence midway, and finally to straight-up nonsense by the end.

But!

The livestream vibe? It was nonstop joy and laughter!

Sure, building happiness on someone else’s suffering isn’t exactly ethical…

But no one could deny—watching a streamer lose it is hilarious.

Gifts kept pouring in!

And the most amazing part?

Except for a couple of early “carry him out” comments—

No one mentioned those words again for the entire stream!

In fact, whenever A Yin looked like he was about to give up, the viewers cheered him on:

‘Don’t give up, Tianjin’s No.1! You’ve got this!’

‘Go boss! You can do it hahahahahaha…’

‘Yo upstairs bro, your noise is hurting my eyes.’

‘I feel like boss is about to explode after all that silence.’

‘You’re late. That explosion passed. Now we’re watching him silently wither away.’

‘I’m laughing so hard I’m crying.’

‘Don’t switch games, boss—we’ll crowd-fund to send you a jet!’

‘【Just Play This: sent a “Super Rocket”】’

‘【Not for Sale: sent “VIP Card” x99】’

‘It’s obvious now—the whales want the boss to die today (lol)’

‘Hahahahaha...’

‘...’

Meanwhile—

Watching A Yin scratching his head and turning red, battling those traps on screen...

Gu Sheng grinned while watching the stream.

Too cruel.

In a world where game variety is severely lacking and gameplay design is painfully monotonous, launching a game like this right off the bat was downright inhumane.

After all, before Cat Mario, there wasn’t a single game in the industry that aimed solely to break players mentally.

Pure evil.

But the effect?

Phenomenal.

In just thirty minutes!

The player emotional value in Gu Sheng’s system skyrocketed at a visible rate.

[Emotional Value: 1975]

Opening his Game Vault System, Gu Sheng browsed the emotional value requirements for unlocking new games.

Those AAA titles? Not even a consideration right now.

They cost at least a million, sometimes tens of millions of emotional value points.

He was mainly browsing the tier of games around the 5000 emotional value mark.

After all, he already had nearly 2000 points. Give it half a day to snowball, and 5000 would be within easy reach.

“What should I make next…” Gu Sheng muttered as he browsed.

There were quite a few options around the 5000 mark.

Right away, he spotted the classic from his past life, Getting Over It—a.k.a. Hammer Climb.

But he wasn’t planning to release another rage-inducing game so soon.

After all, emotional value came from a range of feelings—joy, anger, sadness, fear. No need to fixate on just one type.

Otherwise, players would burn out from the same old shtick.

“Let’s find something a bit more light-hearted.”

With that in mind, Gu Sheng’s eyes fell on a quirky-looking game cover—

It showed a big and a little character.

The adult was in a suit, the kid was in a diaper. Definitely a father-son duo.

But the 3D models? Wildly abstract.

Like someone who’d studied animation for three years… and that’s it.

Looking at the game, Gu Sheng nodded in approval.

“Not bad.”

“Once I’ve got enough emotional value, you’re next.”

The next morning.

The sun rose with warmth and promise.

Golden rays poured through the windows, shining on the gauzy curtains like a dream.

Filtered light landed softly across the bedroom, illuminating flawless, porcelain skin.

Elegant, smooth legs stretched toward a delicate wrist. A cute, pink foot wiggled lazily on the silk covers.

Its owner slept soundly, mouth slightly open, drooling a bit on her pillow, murmuring in a dreamy voice:

“Hehe... ten grand received… rebates… hehe…”

Bzzzz. Bzzzz—

Suddenly, the phone’s vibration shattered the lazy dream.

“Mmm—”

With a soft groan, the girl rubbed her eyes, fumbling toward her pillow, grabbing the phone in a daze.

She cracked one sleepy eye open, and the caller ID lit up with the name—Sis Chu.

“…Hello? Sis Chu, what’s up?”

The girl was none other than Shen Miaomiao.

She answered the call, her drowsy baby voice still lingering.

On the other end, Executive Assistant Chu Qingzhou sounded thrilled:

“President Shen! Wake up! Our game just sold!”

The game… sold?

Holy sh*t!

It sold!?

Shen Miaomiao snapped awake and shot up from bed like a rocket!

“No way!?”

“Huh?”

On the other end, Chu Qingzhou seemed confused by her panic:

“Is something wrong?”

“Ah… no… nothing…”

Realizing she was a bit too emotional, Shen Miaomiao quickly pulled herself together and tried to stay calm.

It’s okay, it’s okay, Shen Miaomiao—stay cool!

A game selling is totally normal. It’s only priced at two bucks, not even enough for a bag of gummies.

Of course some poor sucker would buy it.

And since it’s so cheap, even if people didn’t like it, they wouldn’t bother asking for a refund.

Totally reasonable. No need to freak out.

After some self-soothing, Shen Miaomiao nodded.

Selling one or two copies? No big deal.

In fact!

Let’s be bold!

Even if Gu Sheng managed to sell ten copies, that’s just twenty bucks!

Ten grand minus twenty, times ten… still leaves 9,980. Still a massive return!

Thinking this through, Shen Miaomiao took a deep breath and flashed a confident smile:

“I’m just pleasantly surprised, haha.”

“But no need to make a big deal out of it. After all, the whole point of making games is to sell them, right?”

“If it sells, that’s great. No matter the number, it’s a win.”

“Oh right, if you see Director Gu, tell him we’ve taken our first step in sales. Even if the numbers aren’t great, he shouldn’t get discouraged!”

She put on the air of a considerate boss, grinning contentedly.

Meanwhile, she was crunching mental numbers like mad.

However!

Chu Qingzhou paused for a moment before replying with some confusion:

“Uh… President Shen, I’m not quite sure what you mean by ‘even if the sales numbers aren’t great’? Did someone report the figures to you already?”

Shen Miaomiao blinked: “No, I guessed.”

Come on!

No one needs to tell me!

With that crappy game, having ten suckers fall for it would already be pushing it!

You think I’m expecting it to go viral?

What, you think it sold over a hundred copies?

But on the other end, Chu Qingzhou went silent again for a few seconds, then slowly said:

“Actually, President Shen… about those sales figures…”

“They might be a little different…”

“From what you guessed.”
